This project supports the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and the Nature Conservation Sector (NCS), through UNDP’s Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), in developing a framework for Collaborative Management Partnerships (CMPs) in Egypt’s protected areas. Led by Dr. Dalia Wahdan, the Bureau Gladys team worked across six interlinked tasks spanning four work streams (legal and institutional review, financial and governance modeling, stakeholder consultation, and capacity building) over eight months of fieldwork and analysis. The resulting framework sets out the legal, financial, and institutional conditions needed for protected area authorities to enter into durable co-management arrangements with local communities, civil society, and private partners, strengthening both conservation outcomes and the sustainability of protected area financing in Egypt.
