This exploratory qualitative research examined citizens’ perspectives and everyday experiences of urban policies in Cairo, with a focus on understanding new forms of structural urban violence and how communities resolve conflicts as potential alternatives to state-led prevention strategies. The study concentrated on three neighborhoods—Heliopolis, Nasr City, and New Cairo—and traced the historical and contemporary evolution of urban policies to reveal their role in producing structural violence. A case-study approach was adopted to capture detailed insights into the uneven distribution of urban development projects and their impact on perceptions of violence, insecurity, and exclusion at the neighborhood level.
